YOUR "CHURCH-IN-A-BAR" MINISTRY

Real Meaning Of The Word "Church"

THE WORD "CHURCH (or Churches):" They are found in over 110 places in the New Testament, and does not mean a building, as people normally think of church buildings. The original Greek word for Church is 'Ekklesia' (ek-klay-see-ah) meaning; a calling out, a popular meeting, a religious congregation, community of members on earth, assembly. Hence, if you and others choose to assemble in a bar instead of a corporate-church building to talk about God, fine! If someone has a problem with that... it is their problem.

Providing To Others

FROM THE eBOOK: With your electronic device you could read portions of a topic, but in the interest of time it might be best to use just one subject per meeting to share the truths revealed within, "OUR GREAT CALLING" Hope For Beyond. For ideal results, perhaps it's better to plan for one-hour meetings; but some may want to go overtime. In this environment, it's important to conduct the meetings in a round-table, rap-session format; and let them know this will be without preaching. After reading aloud on a topic for 15-minutes or so from an excerpt or the actual eBook, open it up for discussion. You’ve got to let them talk; but you should be familiar with your eBook to have answers, or click on the Table of Contents to read answers, and/or to know questions can be looked up and resolved for people the following week. If possible, find an establishment having a private or semi-private meeting-room.

Alcohol & The Bible

NOT AS PERCEIVED FROM TRADITIONAL BELIEFS: This will dismiss misconceptions some people have, and prove the Bible does not condemn moderate use of Alcohol. With the following, included are Biblical Quotes, Examples, and Facts.

A TRADITIONAL MISCONCEPTION (Galatians 5:22): The English word "Temperance" in Galatians 5 does not mean abstaining, from alcohol or something. The original Greek word is 'Egkrateia' (eng-krat-i-ah), and simply means; self-control.

CHRIST'S FIRST MIRACLE (John 2:1-11): Note: The original Greek word for "Wine" is 'Oinos' (oi-nos) and means; wine (not just grape juice). It's believed to be from the Hebrew word 'Yayin' (yah-yin) meaning; to effervesce, wine (as fermented), intoxicating-banqueting. "On the third day there was a wedding... Jesus and His disciples were invited (Verses 1-2). When they ran out or wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, 'They have no wine' (Verse 3). Now there were set six water pots of stone...containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them fill the water pots with water... And He then said, 'draw some out now and take it to the master of the feast.' When the master had tasted the water that was made into wine, he called the bridegroom and said to him: 'Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then they get the inferior wine; but you have kept the good wine until now'" (Verses 6-9).

GOOD FOR ILLNESS (1 Timothy 5:23): "No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for you stomach's sake, and your frequent infirmities."

SOME PEOPLE SARCASTICALLY CALLED CHRIST A 'WINE-BIBBER' - HE WENT TO ALL PEOPLE (Matthew 11:19): "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say; 'Look, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'"

THE OLD TESTAMENT & THEIR FEAST TIMES (Deuteronomy 41:26): The English words "Strong Drink" in original Hebrew is 'Shekar' (sha-kar) and means; strong drink, intoxicating liquor, drink like wine made from barley or distilled from honey or dates. "And you shall spend your money for whatever you heart desires... for wine, or for strong drink..."

IT IS DRUNKENNESS THAT'S CONDEMNED: "Who has woe, sorrow, contentions, complaints, wounds without cause..? Those who linger long at wine" (Proverbs 23:29-30). "Let us walk properly...not is revelry and drunkenness..." (Romans 13:13). "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are...murder, drunkenness...those who practice such will not inherit the Kingdom of God" (Galatians 5:19,21).
